Then you don't have enough permissions.

What are the permissions required beyond the API (admin portal), workspaces and dashboards?

Re: Cannot access Admin APIs with service principal via ADF
Hi @v-yangliu-msft,
I think we're getting confused somewhere. In case you're not familiar with the Entra API Permissions blade, the text in that second heading is "Other permissions granted for <tenant name>". The service principal doesn't have any of those permissions. Those are listed as available, because it previously had them, but I removed them, because the documentation stated that they weren't needed and they weren't working anyway. It only has the single permission listed under "Configured permissions".
Re: Power Bi deployment pipeline with Azure Devops and Snowflake
How on earth did you conclude that the original poster is trying to set an Analysis Services data source?
They are clearly asking about Snowflake so I can't fathom how this answer was the accepted solution. Come on, Microsoft!
Re: Need help on multi tenancy
Hi @AjithPrasath ,
According to your statement, I think your requirement is to hide specific tables or columns from report viewers.
Here I suggest you to try OLS.
For reference:
Object-level security (OLS) OLS enables you to hide specific tables or columns from report viewers. You can also secure sensitive object names and metadata to prevent them from being discovered.
You can embed a report that uses object-level security .

Re: power bi custom visual facing one issue for Y axis data load
Thank you @dm-p Your solution works for me
Re: Need help on multi tenancy
Hi @v-rzhou-msft ,
I don't need to hide the tables or columns. What I need is to implement multi tenancy- based on the customer I need to show the data. How to dynamically change the dataset credentials in the report so that only the specified user will see the data. Thanks in advance.
Re: Connect to API via Power Query troubleshot
Hi @APIRT ,
Here I agree with lbendlin, I can connect to the REST API with his code.
According to your request url, you just need to add a since parameter in Query.
It works well in my test as well.

Re: Need help to create Lakehouse programmatically using Service Principal
Hi, @kur83
Thank you for the correction and quick reply.
You can try to use Power Automate cloud flow to automatically create a lakehouse, and here are the links to related questions, I hope you find it helpful:

Update DataLake AccessKey when deploying
We are currently trying to automate the deployment of our PowerBI reports. Therefore we have 3 workspaces within PowerBI (one for each environment) and want to deploy from one to another at each stage. Our report queries from a ADLS Gen 2, but be have a different DataLake per environment. Now i want to change the DataLakeConnection while deploying and I thought it would be easiest to parametrize the ConnectionString and AccessKey and set it accordingly via M-Skript within PowerBI. To set the parameters externally when deploying with an Azure DevOps pipeline is no issue but I dont find a way to set the AccessKey that way. Setting the new ConnectionString is no issue but the access credenatials should be set appropriately too.
Therefore my questions:
- Is that the appropriate way to change the DataLake connection when deploying? If not what is the common way to go? I can only find tutorials and forumquestions for SQL-Dbs unfortunately and also the docu didnt help me too much so far
- If thats how to do it, how to dynamically set the AccessKey for a ADLS Gen 2 connnection via parameters in PowerBI?
Thanks in advance:)
Re: MicrosoftPowerBIMgmt cmdlet Path not relative to working directory
I've opened a ticket for this
- would be simplest to update the documentation; but better if possible to fix the unexpected behaviour.
Let's see how the ticket progresses.
Re: Need help to create Lakehouse programmatically using Service Principal
We had "Allow Service Principal to Create and Use Profile" disabled. After enabling, it started working. Thanks for the help.
Quickbooks Power BI report
Hello everyone! Here is my Quickbooks Power BI report I recently develop using this Power BI connector: https://vidi-corp.com/connect-quickbooks-online-to-power-bi/
Please, let me know what you think!
Making Power BI Reports Accessible to Customers Outside of Our 365 Environment
I’m currently facing a challenge with sharing Power BI reports with our customers, who are outside of our Office 365 environment. We’ve created some detailed and visually appealing reports that we want to make accessible to these external customers via an online interface. However, I’m unsure if this is possible within Power BI’s current capabilities.
We’ve consulted with a specialist, but the plan hasn’t been clearly laid out, and I’m seeking advice or best practices on how we can securely and efficiently share these reports. Specifically, I’d like to know:
- Is it possible to share Power BI reports with external users who do not have access to our 365 environment?
- What are the available methods to provide these users with an online interface to view the reports?
- Are there specific licensing or security considerations we should be aware of when sharing reports outside our organization?
Any guidance, experiences, or documentation references would be greatly appreciated. We want to ensure that our customers can easily access these reports without compromising security or requiring them to be part of our Office 365 tenant.
Thx
Re: Making Power BI Reports Accessible to Customers Outside of Our 365 Environment
@year96 You can simply share the reports with external users as long as you have the correct tenant settings enabled. (O365 tenant and Power BI tenant). They can access the reports through the Power BI Service as long as they are properly licensed. Distribute content to external guest users with Microsoft Entra B2B - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Salesforce is forcing to use Connect REST API instead of Custom Metadata Type for Embedding Reports.
Salesforce security standards in Winter 25' Release, forces to use the new credentials Connect REST API resource instead of Metadata API to access External Client App OAuth consumer credentials.
I am looking for urgent help in finding a way to update my SalesforceAppOwnsDataEmbedding solution.
Unfortunately, this uses a Custom Metadata Type to store configuration data and connect through the PowerBiEmbedManager apex class.
Maybe the Apex Class can be updated to use Connect REST API instead of Custom Metadata Type, however I'm not an expert.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!!
Re: Form submission get blocked because the frame is sandboxed & the 'allow-forms' permission is
Hello Pratima,
Were you able to resolve this error ? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jude
Re: Form submission get blocked because the frame is sandboxed & the 'allow-forms' permission is
You can't submit forms using a custom visual. A custom visual is hosted in a sandboxed iframe with allow-scripts as the only permission. MS governs this rather than the custom visual author.
If you add an iframe inside a custom visual with your specific permissions, you are asking for a higher privilege than MS has given to the custom visual, and your browser blocks this.
This might be possible by using a PowerApp, but a custom visual (including developing your own from scratch) is not a viable solution for this use case.

Daniel
Re: Quickbooks Power BI report
Hi, @Aryna
Your QuickBooks Power BI report does an excellent job with layout settings and visualization selection.
In your report, first, use simple numbers and percentages to present key financial indicators to ensure that the information is clear at a glance. Filter options, such as accounting methods, date ranges, and categories, increase the flexibility and operability of your data.
Second, in addition to bar and pie charts, line charts are used to show trends in revenue and expenses, providing a more comprehensive view of financial analysis.
My suggestions for improvement are as follows:
1.First, add interactive elements, such as showing details on mouse hover, or clicking on a chart section to filter and drill into data to improve the user experience.
Create report tooltip pages in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Set up drillthrough in Power BI reports - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
2.Second, add some notes or markers to the revenue and expense trend chart to point out important financial events or anomalies to help users better understand the data.
Add comments to dashboards and reports - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Overall, your report is excellent in terms of layout settings and visualization selection, ensuring that the information is comprehensive and legible. Continuing to maintain this design style will be of great help to your financial analysis work!
Of course, if you have any new ideas, you are welcome to contact us.
